Sometimes, a client takes so much from us — in time, energy and profitability — that we just have to LET GO/LET FLOW.
I got 3 tips for you on how you can do that politely:
1. KINDLY REFER OR REDIRECT THEM TO THE RIGHT SERVICE
There’s no shame in pointing a client towards another direction! In fact, it may end up maintaining or even building trust because they see how you recognized the business relationship was wasting valuable time and resources for both parties.
2. SET YOUR STANDARDS FROM THE BEGINNING
No matter what your offer is, business is all about SALES. Either YOU SELL the client on why your products or services cost exactly what they do, or the CLIENT SELLS you on why they don’t value that price/product/service. In either case, a sale is being made. Let’s make sure it swings your way — do not compromise just to land a client. Remember your worth and resist the temptation to give in because it MIGHT be lucrative in the future. The future isn’t here yet — don’t risk it temporarily today for the possibility of a pay-out later!
3. BE HONEST AND JUST SAY IT: WE ARE NOT A GOOD FIT!
Trust your guy if it continues to feel bad and the tension with the client keeps you up at night. When all else fails, straighten your shoulders, lift your chin, and firmly but politely say goodbye. No need to burn bridges, because you know, karma. Just bid them adieu and move on.
Let me end with this final thought, a quote from Maya Angelou:
“People will forget what you said. They will forget what you did. But they will never forget how you made them feel.”
